Getting started

Everything you need to set up Linen, Linen VC, and Linen Music, plus every command each one has.

  1. Add the bots you want. Linen is the main bot. Linen VC adds temporary voice rooms, and the three Linen Music bots add music. Add a bot.
  2. Type ,help to see Linen's commands by category. It only shows commands you can use.
  3. Open the setup menus for the features you want, like ,antinuke, ,logs setup, or ,automod.

Linen VC uses ,vc for its commands, and Linen Music uses ,music for its list, so the three bots never answer the same command.

Using commands

Prefixes

Every bot uses , by default, so commands look like ,ban. Mentioning the bot always works too, like @Linen help.

  • ,prefix shows and changes the server's prefix. Prefixes are 1 to 5 characters.
  • ,selfprefix gives you a personal prefix that works on top of the server's, in every server.
  • Linen VC and Linen Music each set their prefix in their own setup menu (,vc setup, ,music setup).

Slash commands

Most of Linen's commands also work as slash commands, like /prefix set, with the same checks. Fun commands share /fun and social lookups share /social. Linen VC and Linen Music use chat commands only.

Handy shortcuts

  • Fix a typo by editing. Edit a chat command within 2 minutes of sending it and Linen runs the new version.
  • Reply to target. Reply to a message with a moderation command, like ,warn, to target its author and save the message as evidence.
  • Type names loosely. Members can be typed by username, display name, or nickname, in any capitals, or just the start of one if only one member fits. Role names work the same way.
  • Post a video. Ping Linen with a TikTok, Instagram, X, or YouTube Shorts link, like @Linen https://www.tiktok.com/..., and it posts the video itself so it plays right in chat. ,video <link> does the same.
  • Toggles. Commands like ,role @user @role, ,botadmin @user, and ,highlight word add the thing, or remove it if it's already there.
  • Tidy chat. Commands whose reply stands on its own, like ,avatar, ,poll, and ,giveaway, delete the message that ran them.

Aliases

Aliases are your own short names for commands, per server. They're chat only.

  • ,alias add bc clear bots makes ,bc run ,clear bots, and ,bc 20 run ,clear bots 20.
  • {0}, {1}, and so on stand for the words typed after the alias. ,alias add zai role {0} loser makes ,zai @user run ,role @user loser.
  • Aliases can point at Linen VC commands too, like ,alias add vlock vc lock.

Permissions

Anyone with the Discord permission a command needs can use it. For example, Ban Members lets you use ,ban. On top of that, Linen has its own trust levels.

Trust levels

LevelWhat they can do
Server ownerEverything. Only the owner can add or remove bot admins and use ,panic.
Bot adminsPass every permission check and configure everything, including anti-nuke, god tiers, admin roles, and fake permissions.
AdminsPeople with Administrator, fake Administrator, or an admin role (,adminrole). They can use every command and setting except Security settings.
StaffYour staff ladder from ,ranks, with promotions, demotions, vouches, and strikes.

God tiers

God tiers protect the people you trust most. Bot admins can grant every tier with ,godtier.

TierWhat it means
God 0Passes every permission check and command restriction, and can manage fake permissions. Only the server owner can moderate them.
God 1Bypasses anti-nuke.
God 2Double anti-nuke limits. Can't be moderated by non-god staff.
God 3Can't be moderated by non-god staff. Anti-nuke applies normally.

Fake permissions

Fake permissions give a role a permission that only works through Linen, never as a real Discord power. A Trial Mod role can get moderate_members to use ,timeout without being able to time people out in Discord itself.

  • ,fakepermissions @role ban_members gives it, or takes it away if the role already has it. Names match Discord's own, like kick_members and manage_messages.
  • Fake administrator grants every fake permission, but never bot settings.
  • ,modlimit sets limits for people using fake permissions, like uses per hour and the longest timeout. Anti-nuke still applies to them.
  • Fake permissions can't be given to @everyone or integration roles.

Hierarchy

Nobody can moderate someone with an equal or higher role, the server owner, or the bot. Giving a role only needs the role to be below yours. Taking a role away also needs you to outrank the person.

Choosing who uses what

  • ,restrictcommand ban @role limits ban to that role, on top of its usual permission. Run it again to lift it.
  • ,disablecommand and ,enablecommand turn a command off and on, server-wide or in one channel.
  • ,disablemodule and ,enablemodule do the same for a whole category, like Utilities.
  • ,ignore makes Linen ignore commands from a channel or member.

Linen

283 commands across 8 categories

The main bot: moderation, security, staff, roles, logging, configuration, utilities, and extras. Every command below comes straight from the bot.

Linen VC

Temporary voice rooms with a control panel

Join a Join to create channel and Linen VC makes you your own room, moves you in, posts a control panel in the room's chat, and deletes the room once everyone has left.

How rooms work

  1. Someone joins a Join to create channel.
  2. Linen VC makes a room, named like Zai's VC, in the room category and moves them in. They're the owner.
  3. The room's chat gets a panel with Lock, Hide, Rename, Limit, Claim, and a menu for Permit, Reject, Kick, Ban, Unban, Transfer, Audio quality, and Room info.
  4. When the owner leaves, anyone still inside can claim the room, or it passes on automatically if that's turned on.
  5. Once nobody is left (bots don't count), the room is deleted.

Room owners get Discord's own Mute Members and Deafen Members in their room, so they can right-click someone (or tap them on mobile) to mute or deafen them. It only works in their room, and Linen VC undoes it as soon as that person goes anywhere else.

Settings

Open them with ,vc setup. It needs Manage Server.

  • Join to create channels: make one, use an existing voice channel, or remove one. You can have several.
  • Categories: the room category, up to 10 overflow categories for when one hits Discord's 50-channel limit, and a locked category that locked rooms move into.
  • Unmute channels: anyone server muted or deafened who joins is unmuted, undeafened, and disconnected.
  • Random room channels: move whoever joins into a random open room that has people in it.
  • Room defaults: the name ({user}, {username}, {count}), member limit, and audio quality.
  • Behavior: the room panel, remembering setups, and what happens when the owner leaves.
  • Staff and more: a VC staff role, a log channel, an empty-room delay, a per-member cooldown, and the prefix.

Who can do what

  • Owners control their own room, and can kick, ban, mute, and deafen anyone in it, admins included.
  • VC staff (Administrator, Manage Channels, the server owner, or the VC staff role) can control any room.
  • Dragging with ,drag needs Move Members: the Discord permission, the VC staff role, or fake Move Members from Linen.
  • Discord only allows a channel to be renamed twice every 10 minutes, so a third rename tells you when to try again.

Linen VC reads Linen's fake permissions, god tiers, and aliases, and the music bots treat a room's owner as a DJ in their room. Nothing needs to be set up for either.

Commands

Linen Music

Three music bots, three channels at once

Join a voice channel and type ,play with a song name or a link. With three bots, three voice channels in a server can have music at the same time.

Where music comes from

  • Searches look on YouTube Music first, then SoundCloud. SoundCloud's 30-second previews are skipped.
  • YouTube and SoundCloud links play directly, including SoundCloud sets and likes.
  • Spotify links (songs, albums, playlists) play a matching copy of each song from YouTube Music or SoundCloud, with the same title, artist, and length. Spotify doesn't let bots stream its audio.
  • Audio files play when you attach them to ,play (mp3, wav, ogg, flac, m4a, and more; up to 10), or reply to a message that has them.
  • Bandcamp and Vimeo links, and direct links to audio files, play too.

Which bot answers

All three bots see every command, and exactly one answers:

  1. The bot already in your voice channel.
  2. Otherwise, the first free bot, which joins you.
  3. If all three are busy in other channels, you're told so.

@Linen Music 2 play ... always uses that specific bot. ,queue, ,np, and ,lyrics work from a text channel even when you're not in voice.

Who can do what

  • Anyone in the bot's channel can queue songs, vote to skip, and skip or remove their own songs.
  • Skipping someone else's song is a vote: half the listeners by default. DJs skip right away.
  • Pause, stop, volume, seek, loop, shuffle, filters, moving, and clearing: once a DJ role is set, only DJs can do these. Until then, anyone in the channel can.
  • DJs are the DJ role, Manage Channels, the owner of a Linen VC room (in their own room), and whoever is alone with the bot.

The now-playing panel

Each song gets a card in the channel where it was queued, with:

  • The song, who queued it, and what's next.
  • Live lyrics when timed lyrics exist for the song: the line being sung, big, with the lines around it, following along as it plays. Turn it off in ,music setup.
  • Loop, volume, and filter, plus Pause, Skip, Stop, Loop, and Shuffle buttons.
  • A menu for the queue, volume, replay, lyrics, DMing yourself the song, and filters.
